Adiós or Goodbye Bogotá!

My favorite was when I sang with two other grantees for a farewell party at our university.

I was also very aware of the political happenings in the city and country. Since Colombia will choose a new president in a couple of weeks, there have been many political demonstrations over the past few months. For example, I saw a large protest at a nearby bus stop. In addition, I saw a campaign party that looked similar to those that we have in the U.S. I also enjoyed watching the debates between candidates on T.V. elections for president. Almost forgot: it was very exciting to see the first presidential vote before I left.

During the last few days that I spent in Bogotá, I mostly was in my neighborhood doing last minute things like organizing my belongings. Thankfully, I was glad that the local church would accept clothing donations, so I was able to leave most of the used clothes that I no longer needed. On my last day, I went for a lovely run in my favorite park, Parque Simon Bolivar, and visited a past student of mine at the university. At night, I went to my favorite restaurant in Barrio Pablo Sexto and had my last dish of typical Colombian food. The next day, I had to leave very early to fly back to the U.S. I was at the airport at 5:00 AM. I flew to Houston, TX, then, I flew to New York in the afternoon. I finally arrived home around 8:00 PM at night, where thankfully my parents were waiting to pick me up. Before we went to bed, I had them try the food that I brought back, Pan de Abuela. They seemed to like it, but not as much as I did.

It’s hard to believe how fast my time in Colombia flew by!
