Adiós or Goodbye Bogotá!

After ten months of teaching and volunteering as an English Teaching Assistant through Fulbright, Colombia has started to feel like home.

I feel so incredibly fortunate given how everything has gone! I was able to live in a beautiful neighborhood in Bogotá with lovely roommates, work in a university with dedicated students and supportive professors, travel with dear friends, and write about it all to a wonderful audience: you all! The whole year was so much more than what I was expecting, and really a dream come true.

All of that said, we were given the challenging task of being “inter-cultural ambassadors,” at a time that was truly difficult and confusing to do so. Both Colombia and the U.S. are going through periods of big transition, and it seems like now more than ever we must be open and communicative to those who are different from us.

Mark Twain said it well: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness.” In other words, travel can lead people to treat others who are different better.

This last photo reflects my feelings about the past almost year. This may sound a little strange, but maybe we all are just cows wandering around incredible places, waiting to jump in! South America was full of unforgettable adventures, and I look forward to exploring elsewhere.
