






While Spanish is the main language spoken, the Wayuu, or indigenous community of la Guajira also have their own language.
In la Guajira, Colombian Pesos are used.
A bottle of water is very expensive! It's about $6,000.00 peso for a bottle of water, which is about $2.00 U.S. Dollars. That might not seem like that much, but in most of Colombia, you can buy a bottle of water or $1,000.00 or less. In la Guajira, you can actually get a bottle of beer for cheaper than a bottle of water!
La Guajira is famous for its lobster, which was cheap and delicious! Since the lobster was a bit sweeter than the kind we have in the U.S., no butter or lemon was required.
Our drivers liked to play Vallenato, a traditional, Colombian folk music that comes from the Caribbean region of Colombia, not far from la Guajira, in a city called Valledupar.
We had a blast running down the sand dune into the delicious, Caribbean Sea!
