How far did I travel this week?:

It was not easy getting to la Guajira! From Santa Marta, I had to take a three hour bus to Riohacha, where I stayed for the night. The next day, I left with my friends Ruth and Luis to a different town about two hours away. From there, we got into a different car, and drove another two hours to Cabo de la Vela, the first stop in our tour of la Guajira. After spending a day there, we drove another two hours to the tip of la Guajira, called Punto de Gallinas, or chicken point! In total, it took nine hours to get to the end of la Guajira, and nine hours to get back. How many is that in total? You do the math!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

La Guajira was just one of my destinations for my Caribbean tour of the Colombian coast. Since I was traveling around that area for the whole month of December, I must have traveled at least 100 miles!

How did I get around this week?:

Most of the time we took cars to get around the desert landscape of la Guajira. At one point, we rode in small canoe boats with motors to the hostel where we were staying in la Guajira. That night, we slept in hammocks! I was a little worried sleeping in the hammock because I had heard that there was a snake living under the hostel building...
