Everyone speaks Spanish. It's hard to find someone who speaks English! Thankfully our hostel owner did.
Just like all of Colombia, La Macarena uses the Colombian peso.
A bottle of water was pretty expensive, about $2.00. Lucky for us, our hostel provided free, big jugs of water.
The best meal that i had in La Macarena was gallo, or rooster! It's like chicken, but a bit more tough and gamey. The skin was so tough, I couldn't cut into it! I had to eat it with my hands.
One night this week, we went to performance near the town square. We listened to a traditional Colombian band from the area play for dancers. Some of them were about 10 years old, but man could they dance! My friend Phoebe danced with one of them.
The most fun activity during this trip was visiting Raudal. This part of the river had by far the most colorful red plant! The cherry on top was being able to cool off in one of the small cañons where there were little cascadas, or waterfalls. We must have swum for an hour!
