While skiing in Chamonix, I noticed a sign that mentioned how just one cigarette can destroy a swath of pristine mountain environment. Although smoking is more popular in France than it is in the United States, this small sign highlighted an important lesson: seemingly small actions can have a major impact on the environment. I was completely blown away by the beauty of the Alps, but I know that depends a lot on cooperation and respect from all those who visit. I appreciated the small but powerful reminder about protecting nature for future generations.
