Attending a tatreez workshop was one of the best experiences of my time in Jordan. Learning the basics of tatreez under the direct guidance of Palestinian artists in Amman gave me rich insight into the intentionality and storytelling behind each stitch.
Altatreez Alfalaahi refers to a traditional style of embroidery predominantly practiced by women from various villages in Palestine. Today, descendants of Palestinian artists continue to practice and teach this art, building on the legacy of past generations.
Tatreez is a part of Palestinian resilience and it supports the community's needs in several different ways. It is a rich language that communicates a heartfelt story of strong, deep roots to one’s homeland. The artistic legacies of older generations vividly inspire the work of young tatreez artists to this day. The psychologial experience of tatreez is also important in the context of Palestinian life.
