It seems like a common opinion is that if someone enjoys their science and math classes, they should consider majoring in engineering. This is true to some extent. Engineering is, after all, the application of science and math concepts to solve real-world problems. However, I think that people interested in art, social studies and history should consider majoring in engineering too.

Every college's biomedical engineering curriculum is slightly different. I went to Johns Hopkins University for biomedical engineering. At my college, we had seven different focus areas within the biomedical engineering major. These focus areas helped us take deeper classes in a specific part within biomedical engineering. The focus areas offered were Systems Biology and Genomics, Neuroengineering, Cell and Tissue Engineering, Computational Medicine, Data Science, Imaging and Medical Devices and Immunoengineering. My focus area was Systems Biology and Genomics, which works to understand and model biological systems (an example of a biological system you might already know about in fourth grade is the digestive system) and connect the information from our genes (what determines your traits like hair color) to the function of these biological systems.
