Tamil Nadu

Introduction:

Tamil Nadu is a beautiful state in India with many different landscapes. It has tall mountains in the west, forests with wild animals, long coastlines with sandy beaches and fertile plains where farmers grow crops. The state is famous for its lush climate and rich culture.

What makes this environment special or different?:

Tamil Nadu has many different environments within the one state! The Western Ghats is a mountain range that stretches more than 990 miles long, and some of the mountains are in Tamil Nadu. The Western Ghat mountains are home to cool forests and rare animals like the Nilgiri tahr. Though the Nilgiri tahr looks like a mountain goat, it is actually not a goat at all. Like a mountain goat, it is a mountain ungulate, which means it is a hoofed mammal that lives in the mountains. However, it is actually more closely related to a sheep than a goat. The Eastern Ghats, which is another mountain range, also has mountains in this state. Tamil Nadu is unique because it is the only state in India where the Eastern and Western Ghats meet.

The long coastline of Tamil Nadu touches the Bay of Bengal and has beautiful beaches and fishing villages. The state also has dry areas that get very little rain, making it different from other wetter parts of India. The monsoon rains are very important because they bring water to the land.
