Wow! I can't believe that it is already time to say goodbye! I have had such an amazing time reflecting on my adventures in Mexico with all of you, and you have all helped me to realize how lucky I am to have had this opportunity. In this last journal, I am going to write about all of the ways that travel has positively affected me throughout my life. Before coming to Mexico, I was lucky enough to have traveled to many different countries, but this has been my longest journey, so I have reflected the most on this one.
1. Travel helps you to become more independent. When you are traveling, you have to take responsibility for yourself in ways that are not required when you feel really comfortable (like when you're at home). You also have to make many more decisions to which you may not be accustomed. For example, when I first came to Mexico, I had to immediately figure out how I wanted to get to the hotel. While trying to make these decisions, I had to speak a different language, make sure I had an eye on all of my belongings and try to navigate one of the world's biggest airports. Since this first day, I have had to make many more quick decisions, while trusting my gut in a foreign country. I know that once I get back home, I will be much more equipped to be on my own and to be able to navigate high-stress situations.
