This simple discovery made me realize how important the value of family is here in Mexico and how this importance influences many aspects of day-to-day life.
Since then, I have recognized this importance when having discussions with my students, my friends and even strangers. Many people are very excited to spend time with their families on the weekends and on holidays, even if they are in college! This came as a major surprise to me, as most of my friends in the United States are trying to get away from their families and live independently. The importance of family in Mexico has helped me to recognize things that I hope to change in my life upon returning to the U.S. I really hope to appreciate my family much more than I have in the past.
I cannot wait to continue learning more about Mexico, while also using this knowledge to reflect on my core beliefs and values!
