Hi! My name is Sam, and I just graduated in May from Elon University with a degree in History and Secondary Education. I have always been interested in learning about new cultures, traveling and Spanish, so I decided to apply for a Fulbright ETA grant to teach English in Mexico last year.
I arrived in Mexico in late August and spent a week in Mexico City with the other grantees. In Mexico City, we learned a little more about Mexican culture and learned about what our roles would be as teachers in our schools. During the next week, I arrived in Chetumal, Quintana Roo where I would be spending the next nine months.
Last semester, I worked with students in conversation clubs to help them improve their English, traveled around Mexico and started to get adjusted to living on my own in a foreign country. I am really excited to start this next semester because I have learned so much from last semester!
In addition to my love for traveling and learning about new cultures, I also enjoy reading, playing the flute and watching sports. I am a huge Boston sports fan; I especially love the Patriots and the Celtics. I am very close to my family who still live in Massachusetts. I have a younger brother, Trevor, who is a freshman at Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina.
