I finished my tour by going to one of the upper levels of the Colosseum and looking down on the arena floor as the spectators would have seen it from their seats. Experiencing one of the seven modern wonders of the world was something I had wanted to do for as long as I can remember, and I hope one day you get to stand where the famous gladiators once battled!
I had a unique experience while on my way to Rome. I had a series of connecting flights from Granada to Barcelona then on to Rome. My trip started off with a flight delay out of Granada which I have gotten used to because delays happen frequently. My flight delay in Barcelona, however, was definitely out of the ordinary. After we had boarded the plane and were on the runway, the captain's voice came over the loudspeaker and informed us we could not takeoff for at least another hour. Why? Because the airport workers in the air traffic controller towers had gone on strike, and we could not depart until the workers and the company reached a solution. It took almost two hours for the strike to be resolved, and we were stuck on the plane during that time; but the airline company made things a little better by offering us a free dinner!
