Our News

In January, we will switch the currency from Bulgarian lev to the euro, which is used across Europe.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

One bottle of water only costs about one lev, which is not too expensive. Thankfully, I have a water filter jug, so I don't have to buy bottled water too often.

What was the best meal this week?:

Bulgarians love to socialize and enjoy food together, so oftentimes in the teacher's lounge at the high school my colleagues will bring food to share during our breaks. This week we had enough food for a whole meal. They brought homemade bread, cheese, salami, pesto salad with tomatoes and cucumbers and "snow white" salad with yogurt and cucumbers. Even though we only have a twenty minute lunch break it was quite the feast!

What music did I listen to this week?:

I love to have my high school students give me recommendations for new music. One of the new bands I listened to recently is called mor ve ötesi, a Turkish rock band. So far, my favorite song by them is Cambaz.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

At the high school, I am the coach of a speech and debate club. Our first tournament is at the end of November, and right now the students are auditioning to be on the team. It has been so fun to hear the students performing various skits, poems and arguments. I love seeing how each student is creative in their own way and has discovered how to express themself.

What did I read this week?:

This week I finished a book called Stork Mountain by Miroslav Penkov.
