Our News

This is a Bulgarian author, and I was interested in this book because it is a fictional story set in Bulgaria. It was so incredible to read about things that I have seen and experienced for myself here! When the book talked about the tradition of the nestinari, Bulgarian firedancers, I could picture what this looked like because I have actually seen this performance of people dancing on fiery coals. When the author described the landscape of Bulgaria, I imagined the rolling hills and foggy mornings that I have seen for myself. The personal experience of living in Bulgaria really made the book come alive for me.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

This week I went with a group of people to visit an orphanage in a nearby town. This group goes once a week to visit the children there. They play games, sing songs and tell stories. This week we played twenty questions with the kids. This game is where someone thinks of an object or thing and everyone else has to ask questions to figure out what the mystery thing is. The rules are that you only have twenty questions to figure it out and your questions must be answered with a yes or a no. For example, "Is it living?" or "Is it smaller than a car?"

Other news from this week:

Aside from the speech and debate club that I coach, I also have a coffee club and a singing club for the high schoolers. For coffee club this week, we went to a cafe that is close to the school. Sometimes I order a coffee, but many Bulgarian cafes also serve great homemade lemonade, fresh juice or even milkshakes. Usually the students that come to coffee club want to practice having English conversations but sometimes we also play games.
