I took a bus to Berlin from where I live in Essen. The bus ride was about seven hours long because we traveled over 530 kilometers, which is over 300 miles. Berlin is in the northeastern part of Germany, and Essen in is the northwestern part, so you could say I did a cross-country trip!
From my hometown of Washington, D.C. to the airport in Düsseldorf, Germany, I traveled 3,954 miles! In kilometers, that's 6,364 kilometers. (Kilometers makes it seem even further, doesn't it?) Düsseldorf and Essen are quite close to each other, only about 18 miles apart, so I took the train when I came from the airport to where I live. From Essen to Berlin, it's about 300 miles, so altogether I've traveled 4,272 miles since I've left home!
Since Berlin is the capital city of Germany, if you can think of a type of transportation, it's here! I took a long distance bus to get to Berlin, and then from the bus station, I walked to an U-Bahn station. The U-Bahn is one of the types of subway lines in Germany. From the U-Bahn station, I took the train to where I would be staying and I walked there once I got off. Being in Berlin seems second nature to me since I'm from a city. If you put me anywhere with public transportation, I feel right at home!
