Besides those transportation methods, there is also the option in Canada to use a horse-drawn carriage but those are more for tourists and to allow visitors to observe the "Old Town". In order to travel far from the city, people use trains. In Canada these trains are called Via Rail Canada. To cross the big river that divides Quebec City from a city called Levis, there is a ferry operated by the city. Finally, to go up the hill, some people use a funicular, as this only takes about five minutes.
I loved walking around the city on my way to school. This also gave me the opportunity to say hello almost every day to my neighbors and to the store clerks I saw along the way. People in Quebec are very friendly!
I also really enjoyed taking the bus because it was convenient and easy to use. To buy bus tickets I simply had to use an app. on my phone and show the bus driver the ticket on my phone screen.
When I would bike, it was very relaxing as there are designated bike lanes and the cars are relatively respectful of bikers.
I would say that some of the ways of getting around the city speak to the focus on the environment that the Canadian culture has. The fact that many people walk, bike or use public transportation in Canada is because they are conscious of the negative effects that cars have on the environment. Some other examples of this environmental awareness can also be seen in the way that Canadians choose to separate their trash into recyclables, general waste, and organic waste.
