Much like our own communities and cuisines in the United States, Canada is full of flavors from all over the world. It is easy to find anything from pasta to authentic Chinese noodles to West African food and everything in between. However, there is a dish that stands out among all the others... This is not because of its complexity, nor is it because it is complicated to make... What is this dish, you may ask? It is none other than Canada's national dish, Poutine.
Let me tell you a bit more about my experience trying this delicious dish...
I had been looking forward to trying real Poutine for a long time, as my friends that had been to Canada had all told me about it. Also, there could not be a better place to try it than the French-culture Province of Quebec. This is where the dish was born, and it is a result of the various fusions of cultures that were here in the Americas, as well as the ones that arrived later.
Poutine is a hearty combination of fries, gravy, and cheese curds. There are also some variations depending on the region, the restaurant, and the creativity of the chef. For example, I also tried one that had shredded beef and onions in addition to the other ingredients.
