My name is Sidney Barbier. I’m 22 years old and from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Just like you, I went to school in Steamboat Springs, too! I grew up skiing, hiking, biking, and camping, which sparked a passion for protecting the environment and understanding the relationship between humans and the natural world.
I attended the University of Denver (DU), where I studied both Environmental Science and Music (I also play the viola!). While at DU, I was a member of the cross-country ski team and had the opportunity to travel across the U.S. and Canada to compete and see new places.
Even so, I always dreamed of studying abroad in another country. During my senior year of college, I applied for—and was awarded—a Fulbright grant to pursue a Master’s degree in Earth, Planetary, and Environmental Science at Université Grenoble Alpes in Grenoble, France. Now, I get to study glaciers and climate change right in the heart of the Alps!
I chose France because it allows me to practice and improve my French, ski in the incredible Alps, experience a new culture, and be exposed to different ways of thinking. Climate change affects people everywhere, and I’m passionate about learning as much as I can about our planet—and using that knowledge as a tool for positive change.
I can’t wait to share my adventures with you and am excited to hear all about your school year as well!
