Italy is known for so many delicious foods, but today we are skipping straight to dessert! Come with Signor Gufo and I to try some new gelato (Italian ice cream) flavors.
There are many different flavors of gelato, they can vary from something more fruity and fresh like lemon to something more rich and nutty like pistachio. This week I had the chance to try two different flavors, crunchy rum and tiramisu (an Italian dessert made with coffee soaked cake and mascarpone which is a type of cheese) gelato.
I love ice cream, but I think gelato is even better. It is creamy, dense, and comes in many interesting flavors. I almost ordered the cherry gelato, but when I saw crunchy rum and tiramisu, I knew I had to try them. The gelato was delicious and sweet, with bits of crunchy chocolate. The tiramisu flavor had a light coffee taste mixed with whipped cream. I think Signor Gufo liked it too, but next time we will try the cherry!
In Florence, Italy, around 1565, a man named Bernardo Buontalenti created an early version of gelato.
