Eventually, with a few encouraging words, I tried the black pudding and immeditely decided I did not like it at all. I could taste the iron from the blood and it was incredibly bitter! I decided to hand that one over to the friend I was visiting in Dublin. While I didn't enjoy the pudding, I'm glad I can say I tried it. Not many people get the opportunity to have pigs blood in an oatmeal patty!
The Irish breakfast is prepared on a skillet. Frying up an egg and a few potatoes on the stove is quick and easy. Getting it at a restaurant takes no time at all, and the meal is easy to make at home as well. After getting my first Irish breakfast at a cafe one morning, my friend who I was visiting, preparerd us one every other day in just one pan. This meal is simple to make before a long day.
In Ireland, a hearty breakfast is essential for the daily lives of farmers. The Irish prepare a meal packed with plenty of protein and carbohydrates to give them enough energy to work a full day on their farms. Due to the large number of cattle farmers in the country, meat is abundant. The sucessful potato plant also plays a role in the Irish breakfast. Potatoes in Ireland were plentiful until the Irish Potato Famine, when there was a blight that destroyed many crops. Even so, during the Fanine, what potatoes there still were would be distributed to families for people to eat.
