The Stanford students live about four blocks away from me, and their program requires them to take classes and do an internship around Cape Town.
I read up on some history of the slave trade in Cape Town. What makes Cape Town's slave trade different to the familiar transatlantic slave trade in the Americas was that the Capetonian slaves came from all over the Indian Ocean—Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Mozambique and China among other countries.
Other than my hike up Table Mountain, I did not take part in any organized sports activities this week.
Surprise, surprise! Even though I am studying abroad, I still have the intense workload of a semester at Dartmouth. So this week I have been stuck in my room, studying a lot of science and writing up lab assignments, while the beauties of Cape Town lie just outside my apartment. Lovely!
I also lost eight pounds! I have been eating well, working out consistently, and hiking for 20+ minutes most days, so I am feeling pretty good!
