The education infrastructure is also suffering: the kids I met were using grossly outdated books, and they lacked the resources that people elsewhere take for granted. It is such a tough sight to see children living in this way.
In two weeks, I am going to Sutherland to go spend a week observing at the South African Large Telescope Observatory! I cannot wait because stars are my passion, and the dark skies here are certain to make for some spectacular star-gazing!
