The farthest I traveled this week was to Wulai, which was about 34 miles round trip from my starting point. Although it was not an extremely long journey, it felt like a mini-adventure away from the busy streets of Taipei. I got to see a different side of Taiwan, with mountains, waterfalls, rivers and lots of greenery. It was amazing how quickly the scenery changed from a busy, bustling city to peaceful nature.
So far, most of my travels have been around Taipei, with my trip to Wulai being one of my biggest adventures outside my everyday routine. Much of my traveling consists of walking to class, exploring nearby neighborhoods and discovering new restaurants and shops. Even though I have not traveled extremely far yet, I have already experienced many different parts of daily life in Taiwan. Sometimes, exploring a new street or trying a restaurant I have never visited can feel just as exciting as taking a long trip.
This week, I traveled around Taipei using a combination of public transportation, walking, and biking. I took the MRT, which is Taiwan’s transit system and is similar to a subway or metro. It makes getting around the city convenient and helps me reach different neighborhoods without needing a car.
