This tradition reminds everyone to be grateful for the people who came before them. It also helps families feel connected and start the new year with care and love.
Tảo mộ is connected to the environment because families work outdoors to clean and care for the graves. They pull weeds, sweep leaves, wash the gravestones and place fresh flowers that bloom during the spring season. Many of these flowers are locally grown and sold along the roadside. Other parts of Tết are also connected to the environment, as families decorate their homes with peach blossoms and apricot blossoms. Many Tết foods are made from rice, beans and other plants grown in Vietnam.
