Meet My Host Brother!

What chores do you have at home?:

Matsepe's chores all involve taking care of the family's animals. He takes the sheep out to graze, cleans the sheep's pen, feeds the pigs, cleans the pigs' stye and feeds the family dog and cat.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Matsepe's dad is the principal at a school in a village called Tosing ("Toe-sing"), which is about 90 minutes away from Mount Moorosi. Since his dad is only home on weekends, Matsepe stays with his grandparents, who also live on our family compound, during the week. His grandmother is a preschool teacher, and his grandfather is retired, but he used to be a miner.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts every day at 7:45 a.m., but Matsepe and his friends arrive early to eat breakfast there. School ends at 2:10 p.m. After school ends, Matsepe comes straight home (sometimes he walks with me!) to change out of his uniform, do chores, have a snack and play with friends.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Matsepe walks 10 minutes to get to school. He is allowed to walk by himself, but he usually meets up with friends on the way so they can walk together!

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Like I mentioned above, lunch is provided by the school every day. Usually, it is papa with beans or peas! Matsepe's favorite foods are potatoes (especially when they are french fries!) and tomato sauce with rice or pasta.
