Bearded Vultures

Introduction:

Bearded vultures are a type of bird that live in the mountains, and, over the past 100 years, their populations have been decreasing in southern Africa. The mountains of Lesotho are one of the only places left where you can find them. Something my village is really proud of is its conservation program for bearded vultures! There are some cliffs near Mount Moorosi where they have a lot of nests, and there is a group of people in my village who help protect it!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

The bearded vultures can get really big. An adult can be three to four feet long with a wingspan of nine feet! They usually have reddish yellow feathers on their heads with dark gray or black wings and tails. They have a black strip that goes over their eyes and a tuft below their beak that looks like a beard! I encourage you to look up some photos of them online because they're pretty cool looking!

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I have seen one only a couple of times, but I was very excited when I spotted it in a tree because I know how rare they are in the area!
