As much as I like Basotho food, sometimes it's nice to have a taste of home. Our host family tried it and loved it!
Basotho love to listen to a catchy type of music called amapiano, which often features drum beats and the piano. I hear a lot of it in taxis, shops and even when I am walking down the street. If you have extra time this week, ask your teacher to look up "Keneilwe" (by Wanitwa Mos) or "Sgudi Snyc" (by De Mthuda) on Spotify!
This week I had my first day of school after our holiday break! In Lesotho, the school year starts in January and ends in November, so this was our first week of the new school year. I had so much fun meeting my new fourth graders for this year and learning their names.
I love to read books on my Kindle. This week I'm reading a book called A Gentleman in Moscow. My favorite book ever is The Overstory.
After the first day of school, I came home and played with my baby host sister, Lemohang ("leh-mo-hah-ng"), for a while. She had just gotten a new ball, so I showed her and her friend Tsepo ("ts-eh-poh") how to kick it around! I think I might have a future soccer star as a baby sister! (Soccer is the most popular sport in Lesotho.)
This week at school, I am teaching my students about greetings, common and proper nouns and emotions.
