Living in the Mountain Kingdom

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

Although there are a lot of challenges that come with living in this environment, Basotho people have adapted in many ways! In rural areas where there are not many roads and cars, people rely on horses and donkeys for transportation. Even in my village, where we have roads, I still see donkeys carrying groceries and water up to people's homes! Since there is not much flat land for farms, most families have gardens where they grow their own produce. Throughout the year, my family grows its own tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, spinach, green beans, peppers and corn. To deal with the intensity of the sun, it is very common to wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants year-round to protect and cool your skin. Raising sheep has also become ingrained in Basotho culture because their wool can be spun into cozy blankets and clothing to keep people warm during the winter!
