Often times we get too caught up in our schedule and the next place and the next... that taking time to document your experience is crucial. The best times to do this is either when you are having a meal in the plaza, or while traveling on the train or bus. I know how hectic a schedule can get, but you have to realize this time is being special, so you need to make the most of it. Your future self will thank you for all the effort you have made to document as much as you can at the time these experiences were happening to you.
c. Small details--I kept a journal and there are so many daily things that became part of my routine that I thought I would never forget, but I was surprised to realize how many things I had forgotten but were recorded in my travel journal.
d. Vulnerability/honesty—Travel Journaling is a great time to be vulnerable with yourself, especially when feeling homesick: the act of journalling allows you to express those emotions because, however you are feeling at the time, these really will be short term. It is important to have that perspective, as you continue to do harder things in your life. One important reminder is thst checking in with yourself regularly will serve as a litmus test to gauge whether or not you need more serious mental health resources. The important thing is to recognize when you need help, as mental health is of the utmost importance. This is why it is great to have honest and vulnerable reflection during your time abroad. And in your life in general!
