Integrating into the Exeter Culture

It has taken a few weeks to get used to the city of Exeter. This is my first time outside of the southern part of the United States, and the month and a half that I have been in the United Kingdom has given me a lot of things to take in. I did not expect everything to be so different, but I am learning to love different elements of the United Kingdom.

The first thing that I had to get used to was how to use public transportation. As a girl from Mississippi, things like taking the bus and taking the train so easily were a bit tricky. With the help of things like Google Maps and the people of Exeter, I learned how to get around the city just like a local. Using public transportation has taught me how to speak up when needed because I would have gotten lost even more if I remained shy. This happened to me during my first week in the United Kingdom when I took the wrong train by getting on the wrong platform. Using public transportation has also shown me that the people of Exeter are really kind. Whenever I seemed lost, there was always someone there to help me get to where I needed to go. Whenever I do get lost in the city, there is always someone there that will reassure me that things will be okay.

Another thing that I had to get used to was the food. British food is extremely different than southern American food.
