Through Their Eyes: The Everyday Life of a Peruvian High Schooler

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

"We study math, communication, science and technology, social studies, art, English, work education, and P.E." Connie's favorite subject is social studies, and Sonia's favorite is communication.

What is your homework like?:

"We have a lot of homework sometimes, which includes things like writing essays, projects, solving problems, and group work projects."

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

After school, students eat lunch and often hang out together. Connie loves to play volleyball and is very good at it. Sonia likes to play futsal, which is very similar to soccer, just played on a smaller pitch.

Who is your favorite famous person?:

Connie loves listening to K-Pop and thinks BTS is her favorite famous group. Sonia told me that Billie Eilish is her favorite musician.

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

Connie loves cumbia music, and Sonia listens to cumbia and musica urbana (Peruvian hip hop). Cumbia music originated in Colombia and is very popular here in Peru.

What would you like to be when you grow up?:

Connie is planning to go to college to study engineering after she graduates in a few weeks. Sonia hopes to study tourism management.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?:

They both would love to travel. They mentioned wanting to visit places such as the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower, and the Colosseum. They also want to visit Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during their Carnaval celebrations.
