Today, we did a lot of walking. According to my phone, I logged over 22,000 steps and the day isn't even over yet! Luckily, I'm used to walking all over New York City, like many of you students. We started today by visiting the Strasbourg Cathedral, known in French as "Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg.” With people from all over the world coming to visit, the Strasbourg Cathedral is an enormous church that is both very old and beautiful. Parts of the cathedral are almost 1,000 years old, and the main part that you all see in photos is still over 500 years old.
Not only is it huge, but every part of the building, inside and outside, is full of intricate carvings and interesting details. For example, there is a tiny carved dog in the pulpit (the place where the priest speaks to people during mass), because there was once a priest who used the pulpit and kept a dog with him for company at all times. Now, people take photos with the tiny dog and pet it for good luck. And yes, of course, I pet the dog! Look for the photo that my wife Molly took!
There's also something called an "Astronomical Clock.” The clock is the third of its kind and was finished in 1843.
