I travelled a total of 12 hours this week to get to and around Santa Marta from my home in Plato.
It’s about 10–15 hours to travel by plane from Oklahoma to Colombia. Within Colombia, I have been to various locations. My most common destination is Barranquilla, which is about a 4 ½ hours north of Plato. I usually need to travel at least once a month for work.
I either took a bus or a colectivo. A colectivo is a small van that you share with other people, and is individually managed by a driver or small business. Taxis in the city are also common, but I don't use them much, as I prefer to walk. In my town, I also use something called a motocarro which is a make-shift motorcycle with a cart attached (second image).
The most fascinating place I visited was Tayrona National Park. The park has incredibly diverse flora and fauna. I hiked for 2 ½ hours to reach the most famous beach in this park.
