The farthest I traveled this week was to the East side of the city. I live on the west side, and it takes me about 45 minutes by train to get to the other side. Even though it's a shorter ride than my work commute (1 hour), it's actually a father distance. I went to a talk on the devleopment of feminism in the economy, which was presented by nobel prize laureate Claudia Goldin. When I was there, I took the time to chat with some students in the local universtity and explore the part of the city I rarely go to.
Recently, we had the festival of lights in Berlin. The festival of lights is a week-long event where many of Berlin's famous buildings- the Brandenburg gate, the Berlin cathedral- are lit up with projectors and turned into light shows. It's a popualr time to just meet up with friends and walk around together. I was planning on going with some of my work collegaugues, but there was an issue, and I ended up on my own. I had a great time just walking around: the city was electric with people everywhere, there were musicians, performers, and vendors everywhere.
