Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

My commute into classes each day is about half an hour by taxi. During rush hour this can extend to an hour. I also traveled this week to As-Salt, which is 45 minutes away from Western Amman where I live.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

Amman is located 5,723 miles away from Syracuse, New York, where I attend college. My flights here routed through Muscat, Oman. It took about 18 hours to get here.

How did I get around this week?:

You have probably heard of Uber. Here in Jordan the more popular service is Careem, which is similar to Uber. Careem also has a function to call a regular yellow taxi though the app, which is always my preference. My taxi drivers are always really interesting to talk to, and unlike in the U.S., taking taxis is really affordable. There is also a public bus system in Amman that I am still learning how to use, but on some major roads the buses even have their own lane of traffic.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

This weekend I traveled with a couple of my classmates to the city of As-Salt. It is located about 45 minutes west of Amman. The United Nations declared this city a heritage site for its history during the Ottoman Empire. As-Salt is a really fun city to explore! It has a castle, museums, and, my favorite, a market street.
