This week, I traveled from Mainz to Rüdesheim am Rhein, a town about 20 miles away. This area is known for its beautiful vineyards that grow along the hillsides beside the Rhine River. This is where I was able to find some very beautiful castle ruins.
The furthest I have gone so far has been from Mainz to Munich. This is about 250 miles away and took about 4.5 hours to get there from Mainz. I took this trip to see another city in Germany and experience Oktoberfest while the event was still happening.
I usually get around using public transportation, such as trams, buses, and trains. These are great ways to travel between towns and cities. Once I arrive in a city, I usually explore on foot. Walking allows me to discover little shops, historic buildings, and interesting places that I might miss if traveling some other way.
I'd say the most interesting places I visited this week were Rüdesheim am Rhein, the town along the Rhine River. I loved seeing all of the vineyards growing along the hillside and historic castles nearby! Some castles sit high on hills tucked into the hillside, almost like something came out of a fairy tale.
