To get from one side of the city to another is about a 30 minute walk. I love living in a very walkable city like Santiago where I don't feel like I have to take public transportation to get to where I need to go.
On Sunday, I went with two of my friends to La Galiciana (the Galician), an indoor market here in Santiago full of shops, really good restaurants and always a tope (full) of people. I wanted to try something new, so I ordered pulpo a la gallega con patatas, which is a potato filled with cheese and octopus. Definitely an interesting meal, and one that I never thought to try before coming to Galicia (where octopus is a favorite dish). After eating, we had some delightful gelato from one of the vendors there. Even though it serves mostly Spanish food, the market has a very bright, fun, hip vibe that reminded me of some American food courts.
Hearing about how much of the U.S.A. has been blanketed with snow over these past weeks I am nostalgic for the snow days, snow men, and snow ball fights shared during years past with my brothers. At the same time, the more temperate climate here does make for a slightly more comfortable, warmer winter.
