When traveling to a new country, as thrilling as it is to see the new exciting restaurants, artwork and architecture around you, it can also be intimidating to figure out what is the most cost-effective and safe way to get around. When compared to cities in America, many countries have developed cities that are extremely walkable and have highly accessible transportation systems. This includes Costa Rica! When first coming to Costa Rica, it was so cool for me to know that I could travel from one side of the country to the other within four hours if I rode on the public bus! And it cost me only for five dollars. Along with the public bus system and walking options, Costa Rica has a reliable taxi-system as Uber is a sketchier option here in Latin America. Let’s dive right in!
As previously mentioned, Costa Rica is an extremely walkable country. Many towns and cities are built with close-knit buildings, and the streets are brimming with vendors; so if you are ever tired of walking and finding new places to eat and to hang out, it is easy to get about, here, via public transportation. If you are in a small town, like San Ramon, walking is the main mode of transportation, as it takes only about thirty to forty minutes to get from one side of town to the other. And walking also free!
