Traveling Around Fiji

Introduction:

Back home in Philly, my favorite ways to travel around were walking and using SEPTA (local bus). Before coming to Fiji, I thought that I should learn how to drive. I quickly changed my mind once I learned that drivers sit on the right side of the car, and they drive on the left side of the road! That is the opposite of the United States which has the driver sit on the left side of the car, and drive on the right side of the road. It may sound confusing, but next time you are outside, look at the direction cars move in.

How do people get around?:

Now that I am in Fiji, I found that traveling around the island is super easy! Many taxis drive around the islands. When you want to call a taxi, you just have to wave at them, and they will pull over to pick you up. Sometimes they even beep their horn as they pass by to see if you want a ride. Many times, the taxi drivers will give you their number so you can call them to pick you up again. The second way that I see Fijians travel a lot is by bus. The bus system here is very easy and fun to use. Every morning, you'll see the bus stop full of people as they wait for the bus to take them into town. You must use an Etransport card to pay the bus fare just like how we use the SEPTA keycard in Philly.
