Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

Here in Taiwan, most people speak Mandarin Chinese! Usually, people use Mandarin for everything in their daily lives. Taipei City, which is where I live, is a very big city and many people can also speak English here! When you leave the city, fewer people can speak English, but I can use both English and Mandarin to communicate most places I go to within the city.

What type of money is used here?:

In Taiwan, we use New Taiwanese Dollars (NTD). New Taiwanese Dollars have $100, $500, and $1,000 dollar bills. NTD also has coins that are $1, $5, $10, and $50.

One dollar in the U.S. is worth about $33 NTD in Taiwan!

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water usually costs around $25 to $30 NTD, which is a little less than one U.S. dollar! Many things here are very cheap!

What was the best meal this week?:

During my trip to Kenting, my friend and I went to a night market! These are little shops that people open on the street at night, and you can find many cool things, such as fun carnival games, clothes shops and especially great food! I tried some food at the night market, and it was delicious! I had some steak that was made with a really tasty sauce. I also had some really good steamed dumplings! Dumplings are very popular in Taiwan. These dumplings had pork in them.
