The weather was very sunny for the most part, but we had bad weather for two straight days. It was really gloomy and cloudy, then for the second day it started to pour rain. The rig floor crew had to work through the downpour the entire day to make sure our drilling operations did not stop.
We saw a few birds. We think we saw swallows or swifts, kestrels (or some bird of prey) and many cormorants. Then we once saw a jellyfish. The most exciting animal was a turtle! We have been surprised how little life we have seen because of how close we are to land. Maybe it will change the more we are out here.
We saw the seafloor through our Vibration Isolation Television camera! It is a contraption that wraps around the pipe and it holds our water collection tubes, temperature sensors, and a camera to help us find the sea floor and the places we want to continue drilling.
