Aboard the ship, we can only travel so far! The ship itself is around 460 feet long. When you are in the "Lab Stack" of the ship with all the offices and rooms, we have to climb seven flights of stairs to access all the rooms.
It took us about four hours to travel from the post of Naples, Italy, to our first drilling location. From there, we had a six-hour transit to the next drilling site, then another two hours to our third location.
We can walk around the ship, and for the most part, we do. However, the catering and operations crew will use the elevator to help move really big objects to different floors of the ship.
The top of the bridge deck is called "Steel Beach" and it is the best spot for laying on a beach chair during a sunny day. The other most interesting place is the moon pool on the ship!
