We had a barbecue this past Sunday with vegetable kabobs, pasta salad, tuna steaks, sausage, flan cake, and chicken!
This week, we listened to a variety of music, ranging from Reggaeton and 80's classics to pop and country.
The most fun activity this week was when we deployed the Vibration Isolation Television camera and re-entry funnel to open the moon pool. The moon pool is a hole in the ship that helps us send a drill pipe straight to the sea floor without complications.
The scientists have to write academic reports and then read each other's work to help edit future research publications. Tessa is reading a novel called Vampiros El Norte (Vampires of the North)!
Our conference room can be used for more than just meetings... We can turn the tables into a table for ping pong! Our drilling operations came to a pause for a few days, so it gave the scientists time to practice and play with each other. There also is a gym on board that people use to go running or lift weights.
Since we had a pause in drilling operations, we also had a pause in core collection, meaning the scientists had some free time during their shift (which is pretty rare on an expedition). So our expedition project manager orchestrated a scavenger hunt to help the scientists and crew interact with each other.
