Understanding Pollution in Major Italian Cities

Another, is that the litter is expensive to deal with and dangerous for wildlife in the area. Problems with litter can even cause conflict between members of the community, as some people blame others for not properly disposing of trash. My house mom is very disappointed in her neighborhood, as many people throw trash on the streets instead of in the designated bins due to laziness. Since the laws are not strict, these people are never punished. Last but not least, pollution is often a sign of wastefulness, and the people of major cities such as Rome should not be wasting anything, especially because of their high homelessness population. I hope more people in the community recognize the need to make Italian cities clean and unpolluted because pollution has too many negative effects.

Is this need being met? How?:

Although pollution is a big problem, many people in Italy are working hard to keep major cities such as Rome clean. Pollution is a "hot topic" in Italian politics as political groups discuss laws and ideas that may encourage people to litter less and to punish those who continue to break the rules. There are also many signs on buildings, buses and on social media that encourage citizens not to litter and to recycle more. Pollution is even a major topic of discussion in schools. When I went to a cookout at my host sister's school, there were booths providing tips on how to avoid and spread awareness about the dangers of pollution. Some restaurants promote a similar mentality by having signs that encourage recycling and taking a stand with a "no-plastic" restriction, which can lead to less littering and is overall better for the environment.
