Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I traveled 46 kilometers, or 28.6 miles, to the capital city of the province, Las Tablas. I traveled around the same amount to Chitré, the largest city that I can reach fairly quickly by bus. Chitré is the capital city of the neighboring province, Herrera. Typically when I have to leave to buy groceries, I go to Chitré.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I've traveled so much during my time in the Peace Corps, probably more than most of my life. I left the U.S. for Panama City in June of 2023, and after the first three months of training, I drove from Panama City to the province of Los Santos. Since arriving in Los Santos, and Macaracas, I’ve been able to visit neighboring provinces and I've gotten to know beautiful towns and places, from the inside of a dormant volcano to an idyllic beach. However, there’s still so much I need to see!

How did I get around this week?:

I typically get around by chiva (bus), and occasionally by taxi. From my town to the capitals of the provinces of Los Santos and Herrera, it typically costs 2.50 USD for a one-way trip. Depending on the amount of times the bus driver stops, the trip can take anywhere from an hour to almost two hours.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

Las Tablas!
