Nature is an important part of where we live because it is special to your location. The climate, geography, and the plants and animals surrounding an area make one city stand out from the rest. The nature around us also influences different traditions, food and the economy. One important piece of nature in Grenoble is the walnut. The small tree nut is famous all around the city.
There are many fields of walnut trees just outside the city of Grenoble. One day, while on a trip to the Chartreuse Mountains, I saw rows and rows of trees. I asked my professor what kind of trees they were and she said they were walnut trees, a specialty of the region. The walnut tree farms are closed off to the public, but I was curious and wanted to learn more. I went on a search to find them in a park in the city to get a closer look.
My first thought when I found the trees was, “They’re huge!” Walnut trees can grow over 60 feet tall. They also have large trunks with thick bark and small rounded green leaves. The walnut is the fruit of the tree. The actual nut that you eat is surrounded by a green shell that looks like a lime.
