The dialects are so different that they each have their own name. In Shanghai, the locals speak Shanghainese and they would have a hard time understanding someone from a different province.

The best meal I had this week was a meal that consisted of seven main dishes. In Chinese culture, you often eat big meals together with your loved ones. When my friends and I went to a restaurant that served various dishes, we found out that they didn’t have any individual dishes. We then all ordered together and put the food on a rotating platform that was in the center of our dinner table. We could then rotate the food around the table and I began to feel why eating together is so important in Chinese culture; eating together creates a sense of closeness.
