Jordan is a water-scarce country and needs to figure out other ways to get water. One of the most recent water innovations was the Disi Pipeline built to transport water from the Disi aquifer in the southern part of the country north to the capital of Amman. An aquifer is an underground layer of rock that traps water. Most of the water is under the ground in Jordan, but some is also below the surface in Saudi Arabia.
In Amman, houses generally get water once or twice per week. Water is normally stored on the roof of homes. It is important to be mindful of water usage (laundry, showers, washing dishes, watering the garden), because if you run out of water before you are scheduled to get water again, you will have to wait for more water.
Where I live, we have not ran out of water yet. Tthere was one week where we thought we would run out of water because we were not able to get our rooftop tank filled because someone sabotaged the Disi pipeline. Because of this sabotaging, the pipeline had to get fixed and everyone in my neighborhood missed one week of water delivery.
