This week has been filled lots of re-adjusting, in many senses. First of all, getting back into the swing of the teaching workweek after traveling back to the States has been a process. Somehow, I felt the jetlag most after spending 7 hours on my feet in front of my classes in the Formación Profesional. Formación Profesional (FP) is the term for Spain’s vocational schools, and the FP where I’ve been teaching for the past 3.5 months specializes in Aero and Auto Mechanics, as well as training for professions in Renewable Energies and Business. I am responsible for leading classes in which we learn technical English related to each cíclo (study section) and their respective trades. Many students come from all over Galicia to attend classes here; their varying backgrounds and future aspirations inspire and encourage me every day.
A typical workweek for me contains a multitude of activities. On Mondays, I teach a Formación class to the aeromechanics about general career information. This week, we were learning the correct format for resumes and cover letters when applying for jobs. In Spain, the more common format is the currículo (CV), and few of my students had heard of a cover letter.
